We went Greek for an afternoon

We studied ancient history in 2nd grade which lent itself to an obsession with Spartans (don't ask.)  This year we are studying the Middle Ages starting with the fall of Rome.  Every year in OKC, the Greek Orthodox church puts on a Greek festival and fundraiser for charity.  Dancing, food, crafts, face painting, educational presentations--it's a big deal.  Daria found the Byzantine Empire and the split between the Roman Catholic church and the Eastern Orthodox church very interesting, and when the festival rolled around I saw the opportunity to take a field trip.

The high point of it for Daria was the face painting.  That's a "blue flame phoenix" by the way.  The next coolest thing was getting to see iconography that she had only seen in pictures in her books.  Oh, and the spanikopita.

Now we are getting ready to study the Norsemen.  Wondering if I can work Ride of the Valkyries in there somewhere *L*.
