We went Greek for an afternoon

We studied ancient history in 2nd grade which lent itself to an obsession with Spartans (don't ask.)  This year we are studying the Middle Ages starting with the fall of Rome.  Every year in OKC, the Greek Orthodox church puts on a Greek festival and fundraiser for charity.  Dancing, food, crafts, face painting, educational presentations--it's a big deal.  Daria found the Byzantine Empire and the split between the Roman Catholic church and the Eastern Orthodox church very interesting, and when the festival rolled around I saw the opportunity to take a field trip.

The high point of it for Daria was the face painting.  That's a "blue flame phoenix" by the way.  The next coolest thing was getting to see iconography that she had only seen in pictures in her books.  Oh, and the spanikopita.

Now we are getting ready to study the Norsemen.  Wondering if I can work Ride of the Valkyries in there somewhere *L*.

No, we didn't fall off the face of the earth

Let's see, what's happened since the camera died after the snow day pic.....

Daria had 2 birthdays.  She's nine.  And tall.  And mouthy, can't think where that comes from :)

We had a ice storm that took out my tree in the front yard.  I replaced it with grass, but think we need another tree in a year or so.

Dariaspop earned an MBA.

I lost 35 lbs.

We all got bicycles.  Yes, even me.  And I ride it too.

My parents had a car wreck and nearly died.  But they didn't, and they're recovering nicely.

Daria passed 2nd grade and will be starting 3rd in a few days.

I'm finding batteries for the repaired camera and starting up again with the blog.  We hope :)

Snowy day

I'm putting this up so I can send it to someone in Australia who is dealing with 107* F right now.

My dream home

When I was in high school, I used to drive through certain neighborhoods in my town and dream about living in those houses. They had certain things in common, like oak trees and brick and two-car garages. They had bermuda yards and flower beds. As I was coming back from the grocery store today, I was struck by the sight of my house as I turned the corner into my neighborhood. It took my breath away, because it was beautiful, it looked just like the houses from high school and it belongs to me! So, just because a dream has been fulfilled, I wanted to post some pictures and recognize this for the blessing it is.
